Zona Opus Posth

An interactive album in collaboration with Kanstantsin Yaskou

Initially, Zona Opus Posth was a collection of piano pieces by an old friend of mine, Kanstantsin Yaskou. It’s a minimalist, aleatoric graphical notation piece inspired by Vladimir Martynov’s so-called philosophical work.

Kanstantsin had ideas of how his work could be made into software instruments. So we collaborated on this project, and I helped him realize his ideas by implementing the instruments as a desktop application, also available via a website and in the form of a recorded album.

The most interesting part about this project is that one couldn’t use the instruments in a wrong way. In any case, you produce the music. So it allows the listener to become a performer. This way, the instruments themselves become an interactive musical piece.
